Makeup Products I Regret Buying!

Makeup Products I Regret Buying!

It recently occurred to me that in almost a year of blogging I haven’t posted a single bad review. To be fair, there aren’t many products I buy that I don’t like. I have usually done through research and feel pretty confident in my choices. However there have been a few products I thought I was going to love but turned out to be a huge disappointment. I completely regret buying these products and thought I’d share with you why exactly they didn’t work for me.

YSL – Touche Eclat Le Teint Foundation

ysl foundationI did not get on with this foundation at all! Right from the first pump I knew I wasn’t going to like it. The consistency was so thin and watery it slid right off my hand! It felt awful on my skin, was very streaky and it definitely was not full coverage like I was told. I needed to use so much of the product to get it to a regular coverage for me. Usually, I like a matte finish but this was so flat and really emphasised the dry patches on my skin. This foundation was so bad it’s completely put me off trying any of their others!

NYX Doll Eye Mascara

nyx mascara

This was quite possibly the worst mascara I’ve ever used. It featured in a few tutorials, only because I didn’t have any others at the time. Honestly, it just made me angry every time I dragged the brush on my lashes trying to see a difference. I bought this in a rush as I was away from home and forgot to bring my mascara, so I had no time to look at the reviews but I trusted NYX enough that they wouldn’t let me down. I was massively disappointed! There was hardly any colour to it, I like my lashes to be super jet black, it didn’t separate them and I could only get some length after about three coats. Thankfully this wasn’t an expensive product but definitely something I will never repurchase.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Concealer

clinique beyond perfecting

Never in my life have I looked so orange and oily then I did while wearing this catastrophe of a foundation. When a foundation claims it can be used as a concealer too I think ‘great, super full coverage!’ While this was full coverage it was horribly cakey and everyone could see it. It settled into every pore and line on my face, it oxidised and it was so, so greasy. I felt really embarrassed wearing this in public. The applicator was a real pain to use too, I can’t be dealing with a foundation that doesn’t have a pump!

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

naked heat

The most controversial product on this list. I want to clarify that I don’t hate this palette, there is nothing wrong it (except those two dark matte shades.) I bought this at the same time I bought ABH’s Subculture palette which I adore and ended up always reaching for that one instead. Since buying this I believe I’ve used it a total of two times. The colours are gorgeous but they’re all very similar, I find the entire palette only gets me two or three looks. I love the other Naked palettes I own but this one has just been gathering dust.

Coloured Raine Matte Liquid Paint – Mary

I love metallic liquid lipsticks. A lot of people seem to really despise them but I think they look so pretty. Coloured Raine was really hyped up by Nikkie Tutorials and when I saw my favourite lipstick colour, a deep berry/purple, in a metallic form I had to have it. This was not metallic. It looked nothing like the picture advertised and I was really disappointed. The formula was also the dryest I’ve ever experienced and it ended up being really crumbly. I bought this specifically for Autumn, it featured in my Top 10 Autumn Lipsticks post after I just bought it and thought I liked it, but after a few wears I gave up. If anyone knows of a burgundy/purple metallic lipstick THAT IS ACTUALLY METALLIC, please leave a comment below!

I couldn’t agree more about the clinique foundation! I only had a sample but I had the same problem as you, it was horrible

Yes! So many people say amazing things about it but it was just awful for me. Glad someone else finally agrees haha

Yikes, I was looking into NYX’s mascara because it’s affordable and I generally like their lipsticks but my friend told me she didn’t care for it!! Definitely won’t buy it now!! Gonna stick to my L’Oreal mascara as usual lol I’ve always found these kind of posts interesting and really like how you wrote this! 🙂 Thanks for the anti-recommendations, Hollie!! hehe 🙂

I never bought the UD Naked Heat just because I have so many palettes similar to it! I love these kind of posts though!

I understand that, I have other palettes with these kind of colours so I never ever use this one! It’s so annoying haha

Yes! Haha, I just felt like I needed to not buy another palette that I already had.

Eurgh I hated that YSL foundation! I used to use one from them but they discontinued it and recommended this one! It was exactly like you said, watery but drying x

Exactly, it’s so weird! I didn’t understand it. It gets such high reviews too so I was expecting really good things. X

Yeah I wouldn’t recommend it but obviously that’s just my opinion 😊

Completely agree about the foundation! Not full coverage at all x

I hate it when it’s advertised as full coverage, but then you need at least 3 layers of it to make it full coverage! X
