Marc Jacobs Highliner Review
A few days ago I was lucky enough to receive my first ever Voxbox from Influenster, which contained not one, but two Marc Jacobs eyeliners! Having already owned and loved some products from Marc Jacobs I was very excited to try these out. If you are a blogger/influencer who isn’t already signed up to the Influenster app then I would highly recommend it. All you have to do is fill out your profile, add your social media accounts to get an ‘impact score,’ answer the survey questions that come through and leave reviews on products. It’s so easy to do and you could receive free makeup as a result!
The package arrived in a sleek black box with Marc Jacobs written on the front and Influenster on the sides. Inside there was a handy little leaflet with tips on how to apply the liner and of course the liners themselves. I received the colours ‘Popular,’ a deep pink and ‘Pink of Me,’ a light pink. The colours are both very pretty but as someone who only wears black eyeliner I was a little dubious about them.
These two shades are definitely not ones I would’ve chosen myself but despite my wariness I was still excited to try them. You can pick these up at John Lewis for £20 and there are a total of 12 shades, ranging from your normal black/brown to the more unusual green/blue/pink. I really love the packaging of these. They’re sleek, smart and luxurious. I would expect nothing less from such a high end brand. The bottom of the eyeliners twist so you can get more product without having to actually sharpen them, which is useful as my eyeliners look awful after they’ve been sharpened. It’s also made very clear which colour you are picking up so you don’t have to take all the lids off to find the shade you want.
On my first application of them I was surprised at how effortlessly they glided onto my lid. They have a gel like formula and felt very creamy and pigmented. I did accidentally drop ‘Popular’ which gave me a mini heart attack as the nib looks like it’ll break easily. Once applied I found I really liked the colours and thought they’d be perfect for some springtime looks. They definitely added a little, subtle twist to my makeup and with a lipstick that matched I was really happy with the outcome.
The first look I wanted to try was something I’d never done before and that was an ombre wing. I applied a pale pink, shimmer eye shadow from the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette all over the lid and then started with the lighter ‘Pink of Me’ eyeliner. Carefully I drew a line halfway across my lid and then finished the wing with ‘Popular.’
I then added The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid lipstick in the colour ‘Cyprus Begonia’ which was an absolute perfect match! I was really pleased with how this came out and it is definitely a look I’ll be doing again in Spring/Summer.
The next look I did was a double wing. Using Kat Von D’s eyeliner in the shade ‘Trooper’ I lined my eyes as normal and then added ‘Popular’ on top. I loved this look and it didn’t take long to do at all!
I preferred the colour ‘Popular’ over ‘Pink of Me,’ because I feel like I’d get more use out of it. Honestly I don’t think I’ll be using ‘Pink of Me’ very often. Overall though I was impressed with these eyeliners and how easy they were to use. They lasted all day, up until the point I took my makeup off. However I did not test them on my waterline simply because I never apply eyeliner there and thought these colours wouldn’t look quite right.
Would I re-purchase? If I was in need of a black liner then I would consider picking up one of these as I was happy with the formula, pigmentation and longevity. I would not re-purchase these two particular colours though, just because I know I won’t use them as much as I would a black liner.
Thank you again to Influenster and Marc Jacobs for sending me these eyeliners, I’ve really enjoyed testing them.
