Unpopular Makeup Opinions Tag

Blog post

I was nominated by the lovely Chanelle Hayley to do the unpopular makeup opinions tag! As some of you may know, I’ve written a few unpopular opinions post, which are always fun, so I was very excited to be nominated for this one.

1.) Popular makeup product you don’t like

I can’t think of a specific product, although I’m sure there is one, but so far I haven’t liked anything from Makeup Revolution. So many people rave about this brand but everything I’ve tried just doesn’t work for me. From the eyebrow pomade to the eyeshadow palettes none of it seems as great as people say.

2.) Popular makeup product/brand that everyone else seems to hate but you love.

This is definitely going to be controversial but…Kat Von D. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely understand the hate. I don’t like her a person or agree with her views at all! Her products though I love. The Tattoo liner, the foundation, the liquid lipsticks, the brow pomades are all outstanding products that were my holy grails. I haven’t actually bought anything from Kat Von D Beauty in such a long time and instead was just using what I had leftover.

Thankfully though, she has now sold her shares in the business and has completely stepped down. She won’t be receiving any royalties and the company has rebranded to ‘KVD Vegan Beauty’. Meaning we can all start buying the products we previously loved again without supporting an anti-vaxxer!

3.) Makeup collab you didn’t like or were not interested in.

I wasn’t really into the ABH x Carli Bybel palette. I mean firstly I have no idea who Carli Bybel is and secondly, that palette just seemed so dull to me. There was not a single colour that drew me in. Also, the NYX x Chilling Adventures of Sabrina collection just isn’t doing for me sadly. I was really excited to see what they had to offer in the palette when it was first mentioned and was bitterly disappointed.

4.) Popular makeup step that you never do.

Baking. I’ve never understood the point of baking your face. I tried it when it first started becoming popular but it didn’t really make a difference or do much other than make a massive mess!

5.) Popular beauty influencer you don’t subscribe to/watch

Jeffree Star, his products and his brand just doesn’t appeal to me whatsoever. I don’t really like him as a person either, he just doesn’t come across as a nice guy in my opinion, very braggy and self-entitled. Honestly, there aren’t many beauty influencers I watch any more, they’re all way too caught up in drama more than makeup and I can’t be bothered to watch it all. The only beauty guru’s I really like still is Mykie (Glam and Gore) and SimplyNailLogical if you can count her as a beauty guru haha.

6.) Popular makeup product/brand that you don’t use/support anymore.

Benefit Porefessional. I used to love this product when I first started using primers. It was my go-to product. I’ve used a lot of different primers since then and have realised that it’s not actually that great of a product. It literally does nothing for me so I basically spent years wasting money on it haha.

7.) Makeup trend that you have no interest in trying.

I have zero interest in faux freckles, I think they look kinda weird and obviously fake and I don’t really see the point in them.

8.) Makeup product that was better in theory than when you used it. Either swatched better or worked better on others than on you.

Unfortunately, I have to say the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Le Teint Foundation. I had such high hopes for this foundation, it was super full coverage and it looked amazing on everyone I’d seen it on but I hated it! The consistency was bad, it definitely was not full coverage to me and it emphasised my dry patches so much. It was hands down the worst foundation I’ve ever tried even though in theory it should’ve worked for me.

Those were all of my unpopular makeup opinions! I really enjoyed writing this post so thank you Chanelle for nominating me!

I nominate:

Peculiar Belgian

Always Cleia

Makeup by Emma Kate

Your answers are so fun to read! The Carli Bybel x ABH palette does look a little ordinary. I have a couple of items from Makeup Revolution that I really like; a highlighter and two lip toppers – I think certain products are good but I wouldn’t rave about everything. I had no idea you had tried the YSL foundation and didn’t get on with it, I purchased it last year and it’s probably the nicest foundation I’ve tried. I agree that it’s not full coverage but I enjoy the finish and how it feels on my skin x

Thanks! Yeah that palette just didn’t wow me at all, I feel like companies are now just pushing out new releases every five minutes to keep up so not as much effort and thought goes into the actual products. Ooohh I’ve never actually tried a highlighter from them before, maybe I’ll give one a go. I tried it a couple years ago and just didn’t get on with it at all, it was so disappointing as I had such high hopes for it haha glad it works well for you though! ? x

This post made me chuckle – I agree with so much of it! Baking dries out my skin, faux freckles are SO strange, Porefessional is overrated and I could never get into Jeffree Star’s content/products.. x

Oh good! Glad you liked it and agree with a lot of it haha. Faux freckles are so weird, like where did that trend even come from?! And yeah Jeffree Star’s products/content have just never been for me, I can’t get on board with the hype around him. Thanks for reading! ?
