Hey everyone! Today I bring you the 17 Christmas questions tag! I found this over on the Enthusiast Blog and thought it looked fun and festive to do. I love doing these tag posts as it means you get to know me a little better and when you guys decide to do them too I always look forward to reading them. So please feel free to do this tag and comment down below with links to your blog so I can have a read.
1.) What is your favourite Christmas film?
Santa Claus the Movie! It’s been my favourite film since I was about 3 years old. It’s so magical and festive and mum always used to tell me that it was the only film that had the real Father Christmas in it, so I was, and still am, completely entranced by it haha.
2.) Have you ever had a white Christmas?
I think I’ve had two when I was quite young. The first time it snowed on Christmas day I got a new computer and my dad was trying to show me how to use it, but I was too distracted because all I wanted to do was go outside and play, he got pretty annoyed haha. The second time I remember we all went out for a country family walk in the snow. I really hope we have a white Christmas again one year but I feel like that’s pretty unlikely.
3.) Where do you usually spend your holiday?
Over recent years it’s just been at home with my mum, sister and gran. There was a big argument amongst some of the older members of the family so we don’t get to see them anymore. I think the last time I saw the rest of my family was about 4/5 years ago, which is pretty sad. The people who had the argument are trying to reconcile, so hopefully soon things will be back on track and we’ll get to enjoy Christmas with them again.
4.) What is your favourite Christmas song?
There’s so many I love! Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin Stevens is probably my favourite, followed very closely by Step into Christmas by Elton John and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
5.) Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
No. Never! We like to save them all for Christmas day.
6.) Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
I pinky promise that I’m not using google. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Blitzen, Donner. I think that’s all of them? Correct me if I’m wrong in the comments haha.
7.) What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
Picking the Christmas tree and decorating the house! I think choosing the tree, decorating it and then seeing it all lit up in the living room in the evening has always been a favourite Christmas moment of mine.
8.) Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Real, always has been, always will be. Nothing beats the smell of a real Christmas tree.
9.) What is your all time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?
Oh that’s a really hard question. Pigs in blankets are definitely something that I can never get enough of during Christmas. I also make a chocolate cheesecake, which is now legendary in my family, that I always look forward to making (and eating).
10.) Be honest: Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
I’m not sure. Obviously I love receiving presents, who doesn’t? It’s exciting to see what people got me and hey, free stuff! But then I’m also equally excited to give my family and loved ones their presents. This year I’m so happy with what I’ve got for my boyfriend and I can’t wait to see him open it because I know he’s going to love it! I think they’re both just as fun and exciting.
11.) What is the best Christmas present you’ve received?
I’ve received a lot of Christmas presents over the last 25 years, and I’ve always been spoiled rotten so choosing a favourite is hard. One that comes to mind right away though is a bell. A couple years ago I got the Polar Express Bell in my stocking in a little red and green box and I loved it. If you’ve seen The Polar Express then you’ll know the story behind hearing the bell ring. I just thought it was a really cute present and something I can keep forever.
12.) What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
Disneyland! I’d love to be at Disneyland at Christmas, that would be an absolute dream. I’d also really love to go to Lapland and experience Christmas in Australia one year too.
13.) Are you a pro present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
Compared to my boyfriend I’m a pro. Compared to my mother I fail miserably. My wrapping skills sit firmly in the middle, although I hope over time and with enough practise I’ll be just as good and creative at wrapping as my mum.
14.) Most memorable holiday moment?
Well there was the time Santa left a PlayStation 2 under the Christmas tree and my sister and I were so shocked and happy and excited that we called every member of the family to tell them and invite them over to play. Then there was the time my whole family stayed in a huge manor house for Christmas and it took us 8 solid hours to open presents. Then more recently me, my mum and sister had the most relaxed Christmas ever. Just the three of us in Christmas pyjamas all day, doing nothing and not worrying or stressing about cooking or hosting. There have been so many memorable Christmas moments, both good and bad, that I wouldn’t change and hopefully many more to come.
15.) What made you realise the truth about Santa?
Unfortunately how I found out was pretty traumatic. I was round my neighbours house, playing with my friend at the time, I was either 9 or 10 so I was pretty old to still completely believe in Santa. My mum told me later on that she had planned to make that the last Christmas where I would believe in Santa and she would tell me in the new year. Unfortunately she didn’t get to tell me.
While my friend and I were talking about Christmas, since it was only a couple weeks away, I brought up Santa and what I was hoping to get from him. My friend said, very cruelly, that he wasn’t real and I was stupid for still believing. I remember replying back ‘you’re only saying that because you clearly haven’t been good this year.’ (I was a sassy 10 year old indeed). My friend then ran downstairs to try and get her mum to tell me the truth. I then overheard her mother saying ‘that wasn’t your place to say.’ All my childhood dreams were shattered and I ran home crying. My mum then had some very angry words with them and we didn’t speak with those neighbours again.
Even though I was heartbroken and desperately wished it wasn’t true, it didn’t stop me from believing in the magic and what Santa represents. I am a massive child at heart and still leave out mince pies and a glass of sherry for Santa, and a carrot for Rudolph. I don’t want to ever let go of that exciting, magical feeling.
16.) Do you make New Years resolutions and do you stick to them?
I always make resolutions and can usually stick to them for quite a while and work really hard toward them, but never quite reach my goals.
17.) What makes the holidays special to you?
Honestly everything makes it special. My family are Christmas mad! We’ve always gone the extra mile to get into the festive spirit and try to make each year special, no matter what. Christmas is my happy place and something I get crazy excited about year after year. I can’t imagine it never being special.
I hope you all enjoyed this post! Like I said in the beginning if you’re planning on doing this tag then please leave me links to your blog so I can read them.
