Hyde Park Winter Wonderland 2019
Visiting Hyde Park Winter Wonderland has become a yearly tradition for Jaz and I. Despite saying we weren’t going to go this year the temptation was too strong for me. So, I invited some friends who had never been before and booked tickets. We’re both really glad we went and aren’t going to bother saying we won’t go next year haha.
For those of you who don’t know Winter Wonderland is a huge Christmas event in Hyde Park, London. With amazing activities for the whole family such as an ice sculpture kingdom, ice skating, performances on ice and even an ice bar it’s a fun-filled day out. There’s also many funfair rides, food and drink stalls and Christmas market stalls. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland never fails to get me in the festive mood.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
We arrived at Winter Wonderland in the morning and immediately got ourselves some delicious Nutella Crepes while we waited for our friends to arrive. Once we all met up we wandered around, getting our bearings and then headed over to the Ice Rink where they had tickets booked. After hurting my back pretty badly quite a few years ago ice skating has always been a no from me haha. However, Jaz had always wanted to go so this was his perfect opportunity. I happily stayed back on the viewing platform, taking pictures and videos and looking after the bags.
The ice skating experience lasted 50 minutes and everyone loved it, although their ankles were pretty sore at the end. Jaz now wants to take up ice skating lessons so he can confidently move away from the edge of the ice rink next time haha.
We then headed over to the Bavarian Village to grab some food. This part of winter wonderland is one of my favourites as it looks and feels like a german village. With classic german style food and Christmas market stalls, performances, bars and a giant inflatable man holding a bird it’s definitely a section that can’t be missed.
The Magical Ice Kingdom
We had tickets booked for the Magical Ice Kingdom which is always my favourite activity. This year’s theme was A Christmas Carol so I was super excited. It’s incredible how they sculpt such huge, intricate statues out of ice! I really loved the giant sculptures of the 3 ghosts, they were fantastic.
The whole building takes you through the story of A Christmas Carol and I loved it. There was also an ice slide at the end and some photo opportunities sitting on a couple of ice thrones, however, none of us really fancied sitting on something that cold haha.
After the Ice Kingdom, we found a little hut that served cocktails and was immediately drawn in! I can’t remember what my cocktail was called but it was incredibly sweet and very strong. Jaz didn’t know what to have so told the bartender to make him whatever he wanted. He ended up with a whisky-based cocktail of the bartender’s own creation which he really enjoyed.
As it was getting quite dark at this point we decided to wander around the Christmas markets. They so beautiful when they’re all lit up. We also headed over to the entrance to see the famous arches which make the rounds on Instagram every year haha. Obvously I took hundreds of pictures at all different angles!
On our little exploration, we also found an upside-down house. None of us had ever been in one before so we were all up for going and had a hilarious time. It’s such a surreal feeling. I actually got a little dizzy. We all posed stupidly for photos. I think my favourite was Jaz being Spiderman haha.
The entire day was so much fun and I already can’t wait to go back next year! If you’ve ever been to Hyde Park Winter Wonderland let me know in the comments! I hope you all enjoyed this post.
