Happy Friday! I’ve officially finished work for Christmas and now it’s time to get cosy, relax and eat a mince pie or two! I found this Christmas tag on Rachel Weiland’s blog which looked fun and festive to do. I love answering Christmas related questions, just reading these was getting me in the Christmas spirit!
1. Do you like to stay in your PJ’s, or dress up for Christmas?
I like to dress up for Christmas. I’ll wear my Christmas PJs on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning and then get dressed up around 9/10am. I’ll usually wear a dress and do my hair and makeup all festive. I think it’s really nice when we’re all dressed up too as we don’t really do it often.
2. If you could only buy one person a present this year, who would it be?
This is a tough question because I love buying presents! I think if I could only buy something for one person though it’d be my mother. She always made Christmas really special no matter what, part of the reason why I love it so much is because she would make it so magical.
My mother would stand outside our bathroom window in the middle of the night ringing jingle bells for me and my sister to hear and get all excited thinking Santa is coming and race to bed. She spoils us every single year without fail no matter how tough a year she’s had. She introduced us to the best Christmas films, decorated extravagantly, cooked Christmas meals despite the fact she hates cooking haha, taught us to bake Christmas treats, took us on Christmassy days out. So yeah, if I could only buying one person a present I think my mother would be the most deserving.
3. Do you open your presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
I’ve never opened a present on Christmas Eve. We’ll open our stockings on Christmas morning and then open all the presents under the tree after Christmas dinner. As a child, I always wanted to open one present on Christmas Eve but I was never allowed. I’m glad we don’t now because I feel like it would take away the excitement of Christmas Day.
4. Have you ever built a Gingerbread house?
I’ve built a couple of gingerbread houses in recent years and it’s so much fun! One year my sister and I spent a whole afternoon attempting to build one, sticking the walls together and decorating it terribly with icing and Smarties. Last year Jaz and I made one and it came out better than I expected! We always get a kit from Tesco or Asda but one year I’d like to try and actually make one from scratch.
5. What do you like to do on your Christmas break?
I haven’t had a ‘Christmas break’ since uni. This will be the first year since leaving uni where I’m not working in retail so I’m very excited to have some time off to fully enjoy the season. When you only get one day off over the period it kind of sucks the joy out of it. It’s hard to relax on Christmas day knowing you have to work the boxing day sales the next day.
I plan on making the most of my time off and doing all the festive things I love. I’ll be relaxing, eating, spending time with the family and watching Christmas movies. The only set plans I have is on Christmas Eve I’ll be baking my traditional chocolate cheesecake while singing along to Christmas songs and then going to midnight mass later. Christmas day will be round my Grans house this year which will be nice and relaxing and full of good food as she loves to cook. Then Boxing day we’ll probably all go out for a walk somewhere, eat leftovers, watch tv and look through all of our new presents.
6. What’s your favourite Christmas meal or treat?
I really love Christmas morning breakfast. We usually have a continental style breakfast with all kinds of pastries, last year we had our Nutella Christmas tree, or we’ll have boiled egg with soldiers and we always have Bucks Fizz. It’s such a chilled out morning. Of course, I love pigs in blankets too, I can’t get enough of those and the boxes of Celebrations, Quality Street and Heroes!
7. What’s your favourite holiday movie?
Santa Clause the Movie!
8. Candy Canes or Gingerbread Men?
100% Candy Canes.
9. Have you ever made a snowman?
Of course I have! Not usually on Christmas as it doesn’t typically snow then, but earlier this year it snowed very heavily in March and we all got to have a snow day where we went for a walk and made a snowman. It was so much fun and I wish it snowed more often actually around the Christmas seaosn.
10. Which do you like better, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Nope…can’t choose. I love them both. I love the excitement, the anticipation and doing last minute preparations on Christmas Eve. Leaving out a mince pie and sherry for Santa, watching Santa Clause the Movie, finally being allowed to break into the box of celebrations and heading over to midnight mass. And I love every second of Christmas day, waking up at 5am to open our stockings, having a really chilled out morning before either going to my gran’s house or preparing for her to come here, helping out with dinner, playing games and opening presents. I love it all!
11. White lights, or coloured lights?
Again I love both haha. White lights are definitely classier but I think I prefer coloured lights. I like to use coloured lights for the tree and I prefer seeing houses that have bright, colourful lights outside for decorations.
