Welcome to Blogmas 2020!
Welcome to Blogmas 2020
Happy December 1st everyone! The festive season has finally arrived and so has Blogmas 2020. Yay!
I’ve been participating in Blogmas since I started my blog around 3 years ago, it’s by far my favourite blogging event. I love writing all the festive posts and spreading a bit of Christmas spirit around on the internet. I wasn’t intending on doing Blogmas this year as I was supposed to be on my honeymoon for most of November. But, as that got cancelled I spent my time off writing Christmassy blog posts instead so here we are!
For those who are new and may not know, Blogmas is a blogging challenge where you publish a post every single day in the run-up to Christmas. I always post up until the 24th of December. So 24 super festive posts! They don’t always have to be Christmas-related, I just think it’s more fun if they are.
How To Feel Festive
Today, we’ll be kicking off Blogmas 2020 with 10 ways to still feel festive, even though the world has been completely turned upside down this year. While it may not be the Christmas season you’ve planned, it can still be fun!
1. Watch your favourite Christmas movies
Elf, Home Alone, Arthur Christmas, Love Actually, there are plenty of feel-good Christmas movies to get you feeling in the spirit. Snuggle up under a cosy blanket and have a Christmas movie day, watching all your old favourites or something new!
2. Listen to Christmas Music Around the House
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” – a cheesy quote from Elf but so true! Whether you’re showering, cleaning the house or working from home, blasting some classic Christmas tunes and singing along at the top of your lungs will surely put you in a festive mood.
3. Bake some Christmas Treats
Missing the tasty treats you get at Christmas markets? Then why not bake a few yourself! From Christmas cookies and gingerbread houses, to mince pies and Christmas cake, there are hundreds of treats and recipes you can try out this season. And, if you have kids or are living with your partner it’d make for a super fun afternoon activity.
4. Wrap Presents
It’s time to get out the ribbons and bows and start wrapping all those Christmas presents! I love wrapping presents with either a Christmas movie or some Christmas music playing in the background, a glass of wine and some sweet treats within arms reach too. With glittery paper and pretty gift bags, it’s a great way to get in the Christmas spirit and feel productive too.
5. Go for a Drive to see Christmas Lights
Winter Wonderland, Christmas markets and local town light switch ons may be cancelled but that won’t stop your neighbours decorating! Get in your car and drive around the local area to see all the pretty outdoor Christmas lights. We live near quite an affluent neighbourhood so love driving down that road and see all the extravagant Christmas lights. With a festive playlist on in the background too, the whole evening feels cosy and warm.
6. Download the Jacquie Lawson Christmas Advent Calendar
Everyone loves a good advent calendar, it gives you something to look forward to every day in December. And the Jacquie Lawson Digital Advent Calendar is definitely one that will make you feel super Christmassy. This virtual calendar provides you with 25 days of festive cheer. You can decorate a tree, make some snowflakes, play some games, watch cute videos and more! It’s something I look forward to every single year and highly recommend.
7. Buy some New Comfy Christmas Jumpers
Treat yourself to a new cosy Christmas jumper! They’re so bright and festively fun that they’re bound to put you in the Christmas mood. Christmas PJs too are always a winner, I’ve already bought a new festive pyjama set that I can’t wait to wear on cosy nights by the fire!
8. Enjoy your Favourite Festive Snacks
Break open that tub of celebrations and enjoy all your favourite festive treats! All the best food and drink comes out in December and is something we all look forward to. Honestly, there’s nothing better than sitting on the sofa Christmas movie with a Terry’s chocolate orange and some mulled wine.
9. Go All Out with the Christmas Decorations this Year
During England’s second lockdown in November, I saw many people on social media decided to decorate early and why not?! Decorations bring so much joy to many and what better excuse than a global pandemic to go all out with them. We went a little overboard with buying new decorations this year and as soon as my birthday was over in November we decorated the house head to toe and didn’t regret a thing!
10. Light Some Christmas Candles
Fill your home with festive fragrances and light some Christmas candles. I love a good Christmas candle. When the house smells like cinnamon and pine, winter spices and dried fruit it makes me feel so happy and cosy. Christmas candles are a great way to get in the festive spirit.
I hope you all enjoyed the first post of Blogmas 2020! Let me know in the comments what you’ll be doing to feel festive this year.
