Welcome to Blogmas!

December 1, 2017

Welcome to my first Blogmas post! I can’t believe I’m doing this after swearing that I wouldn’t when Blogtober ended. I found that I really missed posting everyday though! Throughout most of November I debated whether to take part in Blogmas and planned my ideas out for it. Christmas is my absolute favourite holiday and I knew I wanted to write quite a lot during December, so I decided to take the plunge and here we are. I will be uploading 24, Christmas related posts and I’m so excited! It’s going to be really stressful with December already being a busy month but I am up for the challenge and hope that I can pull it off and not let anyone down.

So to kick things off I thought I’d list all the reasons why I love Christmas! If, for some strange reason, you’re not in the Christmas spirit yet hopefully you will be after reading this.

1.) Christmas Music

Who doesn’t love Christmas music?! I usually start to slowly put Christmas songs onto my playlist in August and gradually build up until that’s all I listen to. Hearing ‘Last Christmas,’ ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’, ‘Winter Wonderland’, and more in shops really gets me into the spirit! In our house we tend to leave the Christmas music channels on in the background too when we’re decorating or having a meal which gives such a festive atmosphere. As Buddy the Elf quite rightly said ‘the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.’

2.) Decorations

Twinkling lights. Tinsel. Snow globes. Baubles. Everything is sparkly and magical. Sometimes we go for drives around town or take the long route home just to see peoples houses all lit up for Christmas. Seeing giant Christmas trees in shopping centres, ice rinks and wooden market stalls make me so happy, I wish we could leave the decorations up all year round!

3.) Christmas Movies

Christmas movies are the best. We all know that and anyone who says different is wrong! There is nothing better than curling up on the sofa with a hot chocolate, a box of Celebrations and a Christmas movie.

4.) Christmas Shopping

I’ve always enjoyed Christmas shopping. It’s shopping without the guilt of spending money because none of it is for yourself. Making lists and browsing shops searching for that gift that you know someone will love gives me such a warm feeling. I love spoiling my family and loved ones and will admit that I do go a tad overboard haha but it’s always so worth it when I watch them opening their presents.

5.) The Festive Spirit

Despite the fact that Christmas is busy and stressful everyone just seems to be in a good mood. People are happier, friendlier, more giving and everyone is feeling that festive cheer!

6.) The Food

I am already dreaming about the amount of pigs in blankets I will be consuming. Christmas is a time where diets go out the window and we completely indulge ourselves. I’m more than ready to be having chocolate for breakfast everyday! Christmas biscuits, cakes, turkey, gingerbread and lets not forget Christmas is the only time of year its socially acceptable to drink champagne for breakfast too!

7.) Christmas Markets

The sights, the smells, the quirky, handmade gifts, Christmas markets are a delight and something everyone should experience. If you’re really struggling to get into the spirit then get yourself down to a Christmas market and soak up the festive atmosphere immediately!

8.) Makeup Looks

I can’t wait to start planning my Christmas Eve/Day makeup looks and love seeing all the creativity on social media. Red lips, gold eyes, glitter galore! Christmas looks are so pretty and glamorous and I’m so excited to see what tutorials people have planned for this month.

9.) Presents

Of course how could I not mention the presents! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy giving and receiving presents and it’s so exciting trying to guess what you’ve got. I love seeing the pile of colourfully wrapped presents sitting under the Christmas tree, I turn into such a child haha.

10.) Seasonal Drinks

Coffee shops bring back their seasonal drinks and they are glorious. Costa have the most festive cups and their Lindt hot chocolate is to die for! I love getting a hot drink while out Christmas shopping and letting it warm me up, it feels so cosy and they taste delicious.

11.) Baking

Every year I make a chocolate cheesecake, not to brag or anything but my cheesecake is definitely the best out there haha. It’s become a family favourite and I look forward to making it each year. Over the past couple years I’ve also made some pretty elaborate Christmas cakes, I hope to make another one this year and share the recipe/technique with you all.

12.) Christmas Scents Everywhere

Cinnamon, mulled wine, sherry, mince pies, pine needles, tinsel, all the Christmas scents come out in full force! I can finally pull out my Christmas scented candles and have them lit all evening.

13.) Glitter

Glitter is absolutely everywhere. ALL. THE. TIME. While this may bother most people, I personally love seeing my wooden floor covered in glitter from cards and wrapping paper, I even buy pots of glitter purely to pour out over the floor to make a big, Santa sized footprint. I find glitter randomly on my face or in my hair and I’m not mad at it. Embrace the glitter this season

14.) Festive Nails

It’s become a recent tradition to get my nails done with bright colours, glitter and nail art. I think my nail lady dreads the day I come in because she knows it’s going to be a long appointment with quite a bit of intricate work haha. If you’re feeling stressed about Christmas then take some time out for yourself and get your nails painted all festive, it’s a great way to relax and keep the cheer with you.

15.) Christmas Traditions

My family and I have many Christmas traditions that I look forward to every year. I’ll have a post going up during Blogmas all about the traditions I’ve had since I was a child that still get incorporated into our Christmases now. I can’t wait for the day my boyfriend and I move in and start our own traditions!

16.) Christmas Jumpers

Everyone can wear bright, tacky jumpers and no one ever says anything bad about them! The uglier the jumper the more compliments you will receive and they’re all genuine haha. I live in my Christmas jumpers, I’m not actually sure how many I own now. It makes me ridiculous happy when I see an adult wearing an ostentatious jumper, channelling their inner child this time of year.

17.) Garden Centres

Garden centres are absolutely beautiful this time of year and I highly suggest you visit your nearest one! They’re great for decorating inspiration, you can get some unique gifts for people there and of course they have hundreds upon hundreds of Christmas trees! Choosing a tree is definitely one the best things about Christmas.

18.) Wrapping Presents

If wrapping presents were an Olympic sport my mum would win gold, hands down. She is a master of wrapping and does it so perfectly, even managing to get the pattern on the paper to line up! We spend the majority of our evenings in December wrapping presents, tying hundred of bows, writing out cryptic hints on the tags with a Christmas movie on in the background and a glass of sherry next to us. It’s a lot of work but so much fun!

19.) Boxing Day

Ahh boxing day. A day where we can sit in our pyjamas all day, eating more food, using our new gifts and just relaxing after the whirlwind of Christmas. Sometimes we’ll go out for a country walk to get some fresh air and burn off some calories ready for more food later on. Boxing day is one of my favourite days of the year and I am so excited for it!

20) Santa Clause is Coming to Town!

SANTA’S COMING!! Yes I am 25 years old and still get  a stocking from Santa (still wholly believe). Waking up and seeing the stocking filled with treats at the end of my bed is the most exciting way to wake up!  December 25th is the only day where I am a morning person, I’m usually awake at 4:30am and raring to go! I’m always the one to wake up everyone else in the house shouting ‘Santa’s been!’

That list was longer than anticipated. Honestly I just love everything about Christmas and wish it could last longer! What are some of your favourite things?
