Halloween is my second favourite holiday which I look forward to all year round. It’s a time to unleash your inner weirdo, satisfy your sweet tooth, dress up and have fun! Whether you’re a kid, teenager, adult, parent, single, in a relationship it’s a holiday that every age group and every type of person can enjoy. Here are my 10 reasons why I love Halloween.
I adore Halloween decorations! They’re cheap, tacky and so much fun. When I see Halloween decorations in shops I get so excited and have to force myself not to buy everything. Decorating the house for Halloween is something I’ve only started doing in recent years and I really enjoy it. I’ve been building up my decoration collection slowly each year and one day hope to go full out with a Halloween wreath and tree…don’t tell my fiance that haha.
Pumpkins are my favourite thing about Halloween. Seeing them in shops and outside of people’s homes make me very happy. I love carving them, it’s a really fun, inexpensive activity you can do with anyone. I love seeing how creative people get and there’s just something about seeing them all lit up outside that makes me feel super cosy. It’s a fun tradition I do every year and I can’t wait to carve my pumpkin again this year!
Hocus Pocus, Monster House, The Nightmare Before Christmas…Halloween movies are awesome! There are so many movies I love revisiting this time of year, including my favourite horror movies. I’m not saying you can’t watch horror movies all year round but I find it’s definitely more fun during spooky season.
Halloween is a holiday where you can choose if you want to participate or not. It’s inexpensive, there’s no gift buying or meal planning, it’s totally stress-free. If you want to go all out, throw a party and decorate the house that’s cool, but if you want to sit in with your partner, friends or by yourself and watch Halloween movies that’s cool too!
People get so much more creative this time of year. I love seeing all the Halloween looks on Instagram and watching tutorials on Youtube, it gives people a real chance to showcase their talent. While my Halloween makeup is often more subtle I still have a lot of fun playing around with it.
I try not to go crazy with buying loads of Halloween sweets but I always enjoy eating the ones left over after the trick or treaters have gone. My sister and I will usually hold a few of our favourites back to have later on in the night.
Haunted houses, fright nights, autumn festivals there’s so much to do this time of year! Jaz and I are actually going to the Longleat autumn festival today, there’ll be a post all about that soon, which I’m really excited about. We went last year and it was a lot of fun, there were owl displays, pumpkin carving for kids, a haunted house, train rides and spooky bat caves. I love it so much!
I bake a lot more during autumn and love making spooky treats. I made my shortbread severed fingers again this week which I took into the office yesterday, they’re really easy to do and are super effective, here’s the recipe if you want to give them a go this weekend!
Trick or Treaters
I loved going trick or treating as a kid and now that I’m, sadly, too old I love being the one to open the door and hand the sweets out. Seeing all the kids dressed up in costumes is adorable, they all make so much effort! I like to really decorate my hallway up for them to make it extra special. I remember as a kid really appreciating it when other people decorated their houses, instead of just handing sweets out, it made the whole experience much more fun and memorable.
While I don’t usually go anywhere that requires wearing a costume I still love the idea of it and would love to attend or host an actual Halloween party one day. Despite not wearing a costume I do have some Halloween themed jumpers and accessories that I like to wear on the day for a subtle bit of spookiness. Let me know in the comments what you’ll be dressing up as this year!
