9 Scariest Movies to Watch this Halloween

With Halloween less than two weeks away the urge to watch some of the scariest movies grows strong! I love horror movies, I think they’re really fun to watch with friends or family, all hiding behind your hands but still unable to take your eyes off the TV.

If you’re planning a Halloween horror movie night and want to watch some of the scariest movies then here’s my top 9 to get you started!

Saw

Saw - scariest movies

From IMDB: Two strangers, who awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there, soon discover they’re pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer.

Before these movies were the over the top gore fests they’re known for now, the original Saw movie was terrifying! Jigsaw is one of the most gruesome horror movie villains, playing people off each other, torturing people and giving them a set amount of time to escape the ‘game’ or they will die. It’s nail-bitingly tense and completely captivating. If you’re not a squeamish person I’d definitely recommend watching the first two, the rest go downhill from there.

The Conjuring

The Conjuring - Scariest movies

From IMDB: Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse.

The whole Conjuring series is one of my favourite horror movie franchises! The fact it’s based on a true story makes it all the more terrifying! The tension in the movie really builds up and allows you to get to know the characters before things start happening. It’s a movie that stays with you long after you watch it and will definitely be a classic in the horror genre.

Annabelle: Creation

Annabelle - Scariest Movies

From IMDB: 12 years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, where they soon become the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

Annabelle is part of the Conjuring series and tells the story of the creepy doll behind the films. There are a lot of jump scares in this movie and had me watching through my fingers a lot of the times. Honestly, that doll just freaks me out! The acting in this movie was fantastic and it was really interesting to see the origin of the doll. If you’re a fan of The Conjuring series then this is definitely one to watch.

The Exorcist

The Exorcist - Scariest Movie

From IMDB: When a teenage girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two priests to save her daughter.

The Exorcist is classed as the scariest movie of all time and it’s not hard to see why! There are some truly gruesome, disturbing scenes that are hard to watch as the innocence of a little girl is mixed with the evil of Satan himself. I have yet to see a movie that has scared me as much as this one. It is an absolute classic movie that all horror fanatics need to watch!

IT

IT - Scariest Movies

From IMDB: In the summer of 1989, a group of bullied kids band together to destroy a shapeshifting monster, which disguises itself as a clown and preys on the children of Derry, their small Maine town.

I only recently watched the IT remake and loved it! The book is one of the scariest books I’ve ever read and while the film wasn’t jumpy or hide behind your hands kind of scary, it definitely did the book justice in my opinion. There was a perfect mix of horror and comedy, the acting of the kids was superb, and some very disturbing scenes. The clown was insanely creepy, if you have a fear of clowns then be warned, and I can’t wait for the next chapter!

The Hills Have Eyes

The Hills Have Eyes - Scariest Movies

From IMDB: A suburban American family is being stalked by a group of psychotic people who live in the desert, far away from civilization.

This was one of the first horror movies I ever watched as a child and it still scares me. There were some really disturbing scenes, which come to think of it I probably shouldn’t have watched as a kid, that has you gasping. This movie makes you feel really attached to the family so when things start to happen it can be pretty upsetting! It is a very gory movie with lots of twists and turns but not cliched at all. It’s a great film to watch for Halloween!

The Ring

The Ring - Scariest Movies

From IMDB: A journalist must investigate a mysterious videotape which seems to cause the death of anyone in a week of viewing it.

Again this is another movie I was obsessed with as a child, I was a weird kid. The storyline is fantastic and will keep you captivated throughout the entire film! There are some very spooky, psychological moments which I love and you really grow to love the main characters. It’s a dark, haunting film that everyone needs to see!

28 Days Later

28 Days Later - Scariest Movies

From IMDB: Four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.

This list wouldn’t be complete without a zombie apocalypse movie and 28 Days Later is a perfect choice! It’s a really believable zombie movie and rather than your typical, slow undead zombie walk, those f*uckers can move, making it even tenser. This movie definitely has you on the edge of your seat and there’s a sequel that’s just as good!

Hard Candy

Hard Candy - Scariest Movies

From IMDB: A teenage girl raids a man’s home in order to expose him under suspicion that he is a paedophile.

This movie deals with a very hard, controversial subject in an excellent way. It’s a disturbing film but it really is fantastic! It deals with paedophilia, revenge and looks at how the paedophile feels. This movie makes your feelings change from one character to another, one moment you feel for the guy who’s going through torture and the next your completely rooting for the girl! It’s one of those psychological horrors where you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen.

Totally understandable haha I can’t ever sleep with my foot out the duvet anymore, it’s way too risky! Haha. The Hills Have Eyes is really disturbing but it’s so good!

I love Insidious too and I haven’t seen A Quiet Place yet but I really want to. 😊 I’ve just watched the first episode of Haunting of Hill House and it seems so scary! I’ll definitely be binging it this weekend. X
