8 Best Books to Read in Autumn
8 Best Books to Read in Autumn
I love reading books all year round, but there’s just something extra special about reading books during autumn. The darker nights, rainy days and chilly weather are just the perfect excuses to have an early night in and read. And, there are some books that just scream autumn to me. So, here, I’ll be sharing the 8 best books to read in autumn to get in either the spooky or cosy mood:
Of course, it should come as no surprise that Harry Potter is first on this list. As a massive Harry Potter fan, I believe that now is the time to re-read the books and watch the movies for the millionth time. Everything about it is practically made for the autumn and winter season. Nostalgic and cosy, it’s a story that inspired so many across the world and I love revisiting it as often as possible.
The Night Circus
I don’t know a single person who’s read this book and didn’t love it. Full of magic and wonder with some incredible world-building and a totally unique story, it’s definitely a must-read. And it’s the perfect book to read while snuggled under a blanket by the fire with a hot chocolate on the side.
I read Bram Stoker’s Dracula for the first time during uni and have been obsessed ever since. It’s a classic spooky tale that, even if you’ve never read it, everyone knows. Perfect for autumn and Halloween, reading this on a rainy day just perfectly encapsulates the season.
Zodiac Academy is a new series I read recently and very quickly grew addicted. A darker, more twisted version of both Harry Potter and Vampire Academy is has everything I love in a book. Magic, strong female characters, laugh out loud magic, a fun and creative setting, enemies to lovers slow burn romance and a plot that was impossible to put down!
Get thrown back in time from 1945 to 1743 in the Scottish Highlands with Outlander! I love this series so much, it has a very special place in my heart. And any books, TV shows or movies set in Scotland will always give me serious autumn vibes. Packed with drama, excitement and romance, this historical fiction series is a real page-turner. I definitely recommend you watch the TV show too as it’s amazing!
A Court of Thornes and Roses
Easy to read with a myriad of characters to love, A Court of Thornes and Roses hooks you in immediately! While it’s not set in autumn, this series builds a world where the fae lives in different seasonal courts, as well as night and day courts. Once again this book is filled with magic, battles, romance, an amazing new world and an ancient curse. I’m obsessed with the entire series.
If you love the movie Coraline, I really recommend you read the book by Neil Gaiman too! It’s so creepy with really vivid imagery that makes it hard to put down. Plus, I just love Coraline’s character in general. She’s clever and quirky, brave, stubborn and curious – making her a very interesting main character. Although dark and twisted, it’s also oddly comforting and great to read on a grey, dreary day.
A Christmas Carol
Christmas can’t be denied any longer! The season is rapidly approaching and if you’re looking for a festive book to get you in the spirit, then the classic A Christmas Carol is the book for you. Heartwarming, Christmassy, and with an important message, this book is super atmospheric. It’s perfect to read either by yourself or with kids every year at Christmas time.
