Autumn is my favourite time of year for baking. I love making warm, comforting desserts for a cold Sunday afternoon! Today I’m sharing with you all a cinnamon spiced apple strudel recipe, that’s sweet, delicious and super easy to make. Just like with the cinnamon swirls it makes the whole house smell amazing and autumnal. Personally, I like to serve it up with a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream as an extra special little treat.
So without further ado let’s get into the recipe!
1 packet of puff pastry
750g Bramley Apples
1/2 lemon zest
2 tsp lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
100g caster sugar
1.) Preheat the oven to 190C and either butter a baking tray or line with baking parchment.
2.) Peel the apples and then cut them into quarters and then thin slices.
3.) In a large bowl mix the apples with the cinnamon, sugar, raisins and the lemon zest and juice. Stir everything well.
4.) Sprinkle a worktop with flour and then roll out the puff pastry. Place the filling down the middle.
5.) Melt the butter and fold the top flap of the pastry over the filling then brush with the butter. Fold the lower flap over the top and press firmly. Seal both ends with the butter.
6.) Turn the strudel up and brush the top with the remaining butter.
7.) With a knife evenly score the strudel to allow the steam to escape later on.
8.) Sprinkle some sugar on top for decoration.
9.) Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden brown.
10.) Once out of the oven leave to cool and then serve with cream, custard or ice cream.
I hope you enjoyed this recipe! Have you ever had apple strudel before? If not you should definitely give it a go. It’s really easy, doesn’t take too long and both looks and tastes so good! It’s the perfect autumnal dessert.
