Pumpkin Carving 2019

Blog post

It’s that time of year once again where I get to do one of my favourite Halloween activities, pumpkin carving! Carving pumpkins is so much fun and really gets me in the Halloween mood. From choosing the perfect pumpkin and browsing the internet for cool designs to actually carving the pumpkin, it’s a tradition that I love. Last year our pumpkins took on a more silly/cute design but our pumpkin carving 2019 approach was to be more spooky.

Jaz decided to carve his pumpkin in honour of one of my favourite movies of all time…The Nightmare Before Christmas. I decided to go down a more traditional route and wanted my pumpkin to look creepy and menacing. Using a black marker pen we drew our designs on the pumpkins and then the carving commenced!

I always get a little nervous before starting the carving, I just don’t want to mess it up! We started with cutting the tops off and de-gutting it which is always my least favourite part. After a little bit of moaning though I managed to get Jaz to de-gut mine for me haha.

I was pretty happy with how neat my pumpkin carving came out, there were no casualties either, my pumpkin remained in one piece! Jaz was also really impressed with how well his carving went as he had the more difficult design of the two. The mouth on his pumpkin took a really long time but he did such a great job!

Overall I think our pumpkins look great and definitely spooky! They’re now sat outside the front door all ready for Halloween. I don’t know if we’ll get any trick or treaters this year, apparently, they don’t usually come around this area, but I’m still hopeful.

Let me know in the comments what you think of our pumpkins, and which one you think is the best haha. Have you carved your pumpkins yet?

I hope you all enjoyed my pumpkin carving 2019 post. While you’re here don’t forget to subscribe to my blog. You can also follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest too. Thanks for reading!

Pumpkin carving looks a lot of fun but also slightly dangerous! It’s not something people in NZ tend to do haha x

Yeah it definitely can be dangerous haha Jaz managed to cut his finger a little with the knife 🤦🏼‍♀️ You can get pumpkin carving kits/tools which makes it easier I think. 😊 I remember you saying it’s not a common thing there, I couldn’t imagine not carving a pumpkin for Halloween haha.

I wonder if pumpkins aren’t in season for us when it’s Halloween and that’s why? It’s spring here so pumpkins might not be as common/abundant lol x

I don’t usually carve pumpkins because scooping out all the seeds and pulp grosses me out (SO MUCH lol), but the end result looks so fun, I think I might have to carve one next year! I love your pumpkins! So cute. Well done! And how nice of Jaz to scoop out the guts for you lol.

I hate scooping out the pulp too, it’s really gross haha surely Joshua would help you out with that…like I made Jaz do it for me 😂 It is a really fun activity though I love the end result, putting a tea light candle in them and sitting them out on the porch. 😊
