Welome to Blogtober 2021
Welcome to Blogtober 2021!
It feels good to be back! After not being able to participate in Blogtober last year, I was itching to get back into it this year and started planning my Blogtober 2021 content during a couple of rainy days in July. Writing autumn and Halloween-themed posts make me so happy and remind me of just how much fun blogging can be. I’ve been so excited for Blogtober to start and now here we are!
If you’re new to the blogging world and have no idea what Blogtober is, it’s essentially a blogging challenge where you upload 31 posts throughout October. While these posts don’t all have to be autumn/Halloween related, they can be anything you want, I always like to keep them on theme to really express my love for the season!
It’s definitely a very stressful challenge and a lot of time and effort goes into these posts, but I enjoy every minute of it. It’s so rewarding once you complete the whole month and I love looking back on my old autumnal posts too! I’ve been participating in this challenge since 2017 and it’s still something I look forward to doing every single year.
So, to kick off Blogtober 2021 I thought I’d create a little list of some of the reasons why autumn is my favourite time of year.
1. Darker Nights
Most people prefer the brighter mornings and longer evenings in the summer. But I can’t wait for the days where it starts to get darker. When you look out the window at 4/5pm and the sun is going down and you can settle in for a cosy night. When you wake up in darkness and can watch the sunrise.
2. Crunchy Leaves
The whole world looks so much prettier when the leaves start to change into varying shades of orange, red and brown. And when they start to fall and you hear that crunch as you walk over them, there is no better feeling! I love seeing little leaf piles everywhere and you can bet I’ll go out of my way to walk through them.
3. Hot Chocolate
‘Tis the season for the only hot drink I like! When the coffee shops starting making their seasonal hot chocolates with different flavours such as hazelnut (my fave) orange, or white chocolate I’m all over it. Going for a walk amongst crunchy leaves on a chilly day, holding a hot chocolate to warm to your hands or snuggling under a blanket and watching movies sipping on that liquid goodness is just the best.
As one of my favourite holidays of the year, I am so ready for Halloween! From the decorations and the movies to the sweets and the pumpkins on every doorstep, I love it all! This Halloween we’ll be throwing our delayed wedding party so while I can’t enjoy Halloween as I normally would I’m still excited for all the upcoming spooky season events.
5. Bonfire Night
Bonfire night is one of the most fun nights of the year that I always look forward to! Not only does it mark the 1-week countdown to my birthday but it’s also just a great night of good food, warm bonfires, pretty fireworks and fairground rides. I’m hoping to head down to Somerset this year to watch the firework display at Sherborne Castle which I’m sure will be even more spectacular than previous years as it couldn’t go ahead during lockdown last year.
6. My Birthday
Of course, I’m also looking forward to my birthday in November! Again, as last year we couldn’t really celebrate or do much, this year I believe my husband is planning a day full of surprise activities. I have no idea what he’s got planned or where we’ll be going but I’m very excited.
7. Autumn Clothes
The autumn clothes are back in shops and can come to the forefront of my wardrobe. I can’t wait to start wearing all my thick, cosy jumpers, cardigans, coats and boots. Autumn fashion is so much more comfortable for me to wear and I definitely feel happier and more like myself when wearing layers and darker colours.
8. Cosy Vibes
The cosy vibes are everywhere and I am living for it! As someone who tries to embody autumn all year round and make their home and life as cosy as possible, this time of year is where I can really embrace the cosiness. With the smell of autumn in the air, enjoying the rainy days, wrapping up in blankets, lighting candles, decorating the house for autumn, having warm baths and indulging in comfort food and TV, this time of year just makes my heart happy.
9. Fluffy socks
Who doesn’t love buying a brand new pair of fluffy socks and padding around the house in them?! They just hit different haha. When I put on the fluffy loungewear and socks don’t expect me to leave the house or do anything other than curl up by the fire with a book or watch Harry Potter. When the fluffy socks come out, I’m fully planning on having the cosiest day possible.
10. Autumn and Halloween Home Decor
Who else gets incredibly excited when they see all the autumn and Halloween home decor in TK Maxx or Homesense? I know I do! When all the autumn bits came in stores in July, I couldn’t help but spend a small fortune and I have no regrets. While some may complain that it’s too early, seeing all the autumn decor gives me hope that the best time of the year is nearly here!
11. Scented Candles
Cinnamon, pumpkin spice, cranberry, apple cider and caramel, there’s nothing better than autumn scented candles. And although I have a ridiculous amount of autumn candles already, will that stop me from buying more? No, no it won’t. It always feels extra special and cosy when it’s dark and rainy and an autumn scented candle is lit.
Seeing pumpkins absolutely everywhere makes me so happy. I love seeing them on people’s doorsteps and admiring how they’ve carved them. I love seeing them in shops, both real and decorative. And I love going to pumpkin patches and picking out the perfect pumpkin. Last year we were unable to go to a pumpkin patch but this year I fully intend on spending an afternoon walking through the muddy fields and getting as many pumpkins as possible!
13. Autumn walks
With a crisp chill in the air, the crunchy leaves and multicoloured trees, going for walk during autumn feels so much more fun and refreshing. I can’t wait to take our dog, Luna, on a walk around an autumnal park. As she’ll be 1 year old in December she’s never experienced autumn or Halloween before so I really hope she loves it and chases all the leaves haha.
14. Rainy Days
By July I am more than ready to say goodbye to the sun and hello to the grey, rainy days. If there’s a thunderstorm predicted, you can find me with a hot chocolate in hand staring out the window watching the rainfall and the lightning strike. There’s nothing quite like the smell of rain and when the grey skies make everything inside turn darker too I feel complete.
15. Closer to Christmas…
Lastly, the start of autumn means it’s closer to Christmas! Providing we’re not thrown into another lockdown, I have big plans for the Christmas season this year. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, Longleat Festival of Lights, Christmas markets, mulled wine, Christmas garden centre displays, extravagant decorations and hosting the whole family on Christmas day. I can’t wait for it all!
I hope you all enjoyed the first post of Blogtober 2021! Let me know in the comments what your favourite things about autumn are.
