Mini Book Haul

January 6, 2018

It’s been a while since I updated my bookshelf and since I got an Amazon voucher for Christmas I couldn’t think of a better way to the start the new year with some new books! I picked up these in a 3 for £10 offer and thought I’d share with you all a mini book haul. I can’t wait to get started on them!

The One Memory of Flora Banks – Emily Barr

How do you know who to trust when you can’t even trust yourself? I look at my hands. One of them says Flora be brave. Flora has amnesia. She can’t remember anything day-to-day: the joke her friend made, the instructions her parents gave her, how old she is. Then she kisses someone she shouldn’t – and the next day she remembers it. It’s the first time she’s remembered anything since she was ten. But the boy is gone.

This book sounded really intriguing to me. Told from the point of view of a girl with amnesia I imagine it’d be very eye opening. I’ve never read anything from Emily Barr before but the cover, blurb and good reviews drew me in. I have yet to start it but already feel like Flora is going to be a completely lovable and endearing protagonist.

Caraval – Stephanie Garber

‘Remember it’s all a game. What happens beyond this gate may frighten or excite you. But don’t let any of it trick you.’ Once a year the infamous Master Legend hosts Caraval – open only to those who have been invited. This year the week-long game is on Legend’s glittering Isla de los Suenos, where the winding streets are an elaborate snow-covered maze and the people are never who they seem. At midnight on the first day, the show begins and the visitors become players. Each of them is vying for the coveted prize: a single wish. All they must do is unravel the mystery of Caraval. But in a game where danger hides behind every charming smile, winning isn’t without loss, an their wish might be their last.

This book is probably the one I am most excited to read. The cover is beautiful and the story seems so magical and mysterious. After having read The Night Circus I’m looking forward to reading another book set in a circus in an enchanting world. I love the idea of the game and that nothing is what it may seem. I’m sure this books will be full of unexpected twists and turns and I can’t wait for it to take me away.

The Start of Me and You – Emery Lord

Can you plan happiness? It’s been a year since Paige’s first boyfriend died in a swimming accident and it’s time she rejoined the real world. So she makes a plan:

  1. Date a boy (long-standing crush Ryan Chase seems like the perfect choice)
  2. Attend parties (with best friends by your side: doable)
  3. Join a club (simple enough, right?)
  4. Travel (might as well dream big)
  5. Swim (terrifying. Impossible)

But when she meets Ryan’s sweet (but so nerdy) cousin, Max, he opens up her world and Paige’s plans start to chance…is it too late for a second chance at life?

Grab the tissues because I’m sure this one is going to be emotional! This book has some really great reviews so I have high expectations. The main character sounds like she’s an introvert, which I can totally relate to, and I feel like despite it being a sad story, it’s also going to be uplifting.

Have you read any of these books?

I haven’t read any of these but they all look really interesting. Particularly the first one. It reminds me a tiiiiny bit of Elizabeth is missing – mainly to do with memory loss. Will definitely have a look out for that one!
