My 26th birthday was on the 12th of November and my fiance had planned a surprise birthday weekend away in London! All I knew is that we were in London and I needed to wear something casual for the what he’d planned for the day and dress up for the evening. I was super excited and had absolutely no idea what he could’ve planned!
Friday 9th November
I caught the train up to London after work on Friday, with no idea where I’d be staying. Jaz told me the hotel was near Buckingham Palace but that was my only hint. I met him at Waterloo where we then took a couple more trains until we got to St James’s Park.
The hotel we stayed at was the St Jame’s Court, A Taj Hotel and it was beautiful! It looked very luxurious and the lobby was really something to be admired.
Our room had a terrace and the view from it was stunning.
Since I arrived pretty late we decided to order room service. Jaz had been to Harrods earlier in the afternoon and picked up a couple slices of Nutella and Oreo cake which was amazing! We both ordered burgers and chunky chips from room service and honestly, I think it was the best burger I’d ever had. We then spent the evening indulging, watching The Office and I tried to guess what he had planned for Saturday.
Saturday 10th November
We woke up bright and early on Saturday to get ready for the first activity. We had a little bit of time to kill after we were ready so wandered down to Buckingham Palace and walked through Green Park.
The first activity turned out to be Madame Tussauds! I was really excited for this as I’d never been before and it was something on my bucket list. It was really interesting seeing the wax figures up close and compare heights haha. The first figure we saw when entering was Audrey Hepburn who I’ve idolised since I was 16 so that was pretty awesome!
We went on the ‘Spirit of London’ ride which was a lot of fun as we sat in a black taxi and went on a journey through the history of London. We also did the Marvel 4D experience. Now I’m not a fan of superhero movies, Jaz loves them and has been getting me to watch a few but I don’t know much about them at all. The experience, however, was amazing! I jumped a few times as it looked like things were flying at me and air burst on the back of my head.
Donald Trump really does have a face made to be punched, doesn’t he?
After Madame Tussauds, the next activity was the London Aquarium. I’m a big fan of aquariums and had never been to the London one so again I was pretty damn excited!
It was a lot bigger inside than I thought. I hadn’t realised they had fully grown sharks there, they looked terrifying but it was fascinating to see them up close. I think my favourite parts were the penguins, the Jellyfish, and of course the Nemo and Dory fish. Jaz loved the giant turtles and was very happy when one looked right at him for a picture haha.
After the aquarium, we spent the rest of the afternoon browsing Harrods. I love Harrods, there’s so much to look at, from the amazing cakes and Christmas display to the opulent dresses, home furnishings and jewellery, everything is beautiful!
For the meal that night we went to an Indian place in Carnaby Street called Dishoom. We had to wait for an hour and a half to be seated but it was worth it because the food was amazing. I highly recommend you try Dishoom out if you’re in the area.
After the meal, we went to a couple of bars and then ended up in a pub where we spent the majority of the night getting very tipsy haha. To be honest I don’t remember getting back to the hotel but somehow we did and slept very soundly!
On Sunday we allowed ourselves a well-deserved lie in after a very busy day! We checked out of the hotel at 11am and headed over to Essex where we had lunch and a little shop around Lakeside before heading back down to Somerset.
I had an absolutely incredible birthday weekend and I can’t believe how much we managed to fit in on Saturday! It was a really exhausting day but I loved every second of it. I’m definitely craving another trip back and want to see and do more things I haven’t experienced there yet! Jaz did an incredible job of organising the day and I’m so grateful for everything.
Thanks for reading and I hope you all enjoyed this post!
