A Day in my Life (Quarantine Style)

Blog post

A normal day in my life has changed drastically since lockdown was announced. Where before I’d be out for most of the day, at work, on the train, in the gym, now my days are confined to just a few rooms. I’m not going to lie, I do feel like Rapunzel a lot of time now.

Over the past 4 weeks, I’ve managed to get into a routine that works well for me. This has done wonders for me mentally as it keeps me busy and distracted. So, I thought I’d share with you a day in my life (quarantine style) to give you a little insight into my everyday routine.

A Day in my Life

My alarm goes off and I decide whether I actually want to get up, or stay in bed for an extra hour.

I usually do roll out of bed at this time and start getting ready.

Makeup will be all done. I’ve been going through phases of either doing a full face of makeup with bold eyeshadow or simply just a bit of concealer and powder. There is no in-between.

I’ll decide which combination leggings and hoodie I’ll wear for the day.

I’ll brush my hair and straighten my fringe so I look somewhat presentable for my first work video call.

I grab my Macbook, sit on my bed and play Animal Crossing for a little bit.

Log on and check all my work emails/messages/tasks for the day.

I have a daily catch up call with my team to discuss what exactly we’re going to be working on and any unfinished tasks from the day before.

I’ll head downstairs, plug the Macbook into my second monitor and then have breakfast. This usually consists of either a bowl of cereal or a toasted bagel. Then I’ll actually spend a couple of hours working.

If my fiance and I have decided to go for a walk, this is the time we’ll do it. Luckily we live just opposite a big park so it’s very quick and easy to get to. We’ll wander around the whole park, taking pictures of the lake or any pretty flowers/trees. It’s really nice to be able to get some fresh air and have a break from the computer screens.

We’ll be back home by now and make something for lunch. Lunch always varies, it can either be a quick sandwich or a full-on hot meal.

It’s back to work for me for the rest of the afternoon. I do feel very grateful that even in this uncertain time I’m still able to work from home easily. It gives me a routine and purpose and is a great distraction from everything going on outside.

I’ll finish work and head upstairs to play Animal Crossing again.

My personal trainer is still training both me and my fiance through video calls so we usually have a training session with him at this time in the back garden. It’s really awkward working out on a video call but at the moment it’s the most active part of my day.

My fiance’s dad would’ve cooked dinner while we were working out, so we’ll all sit down, eat and watch a bit of TV.

I’ll go up to have a shower, wash my hair, do my skincare routine and get ready for bed.

Both me and my fiance will get into bed and find something to watch on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Sky. We have ALL the streaming services haha. We actually have a little rule in place were we alternate who gets to choose what to watch each night. So we can put on anything we like without the other person complaining. It’s been a great way to introduce each other to new movies/series. Right now Jaz has been making me watch every single Marvel movie as I’d never seen them before and I’ve introduced him to both Schitts Creek and The Walking Dead.

We’ll spend the rest of the evening watching TV and I’ll also catch up on blog posts/social media or we’ll both play Animal Crossing again. Can you tell I’m obsessed with this game? Jaz is too haha. I’ll normally end up falling asleep around 11pm/12am depending on if I get trapped in a Youtube/social media hole.

That’s pretty much an average day in my life. Obviously weekends are different and there’ll be times where we need to go to the supermarket too. While my days may not be the most interesting right now, I’m really glad I have a routine in place as it stops the week from dragging.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and it gave you a little insight into what my day is like during quarantine/lockdown. Do you have a routine during this time? Are you still able to work from home? Let me know in the comments. While you’re here don’t forget to subscribe to Beauty and the Bookshelves. You can also follow me on InstagramTwitter, and Pinterest too. Thanks for reading!

It’s good to have a routine and a few things you do daily to make things feel more ‘normal’. I’ve been doing my makeup a few days a week too, usually the days I have video calls so I at least look presentable. It’s nice that you’re not in isolation alone and have company but I remember you saying you miss your family. Good idea with you and your fiance to alternate choosing something to watch x

Yeah if I didn’t have a routine I’d be in such a slump, I just wouldn’t get anything done! That’s good, it’s hard to remember sometimes that video calls are social events too haha. Yeah I’m so glad I’m not alone during this but I am desperate to go home now. Having alternate nights makes it so much easier to introduce each other to new shows! ?
