A Month in Pictures: February 2019
February 2019 was certainly an interesting month, to say the least. Jaz and I celebrated Valentine’s Day for the first time in 7 years, we booked another trip to Disneyland, my sister turned 20…oh and I got fired.
On the 1st of February, we were blessed with a snow day. I was just getting over a cold but that didn’t stop me from going out for a snowy walk or building a snowman. It was a really great day and even better that it happened on a Friday.
Save the Dates
Our Save the Dates arrived and they were perfect! I bought a digital download from Etsy and got them printed. Most of them have been sent now, there’s just a few that Jaz wanted to hand deliver. Seeing this up on the fridge every day makes the wedding feel a lot more real, it’s very scary haha. We’ve also booked a meeting with a photographer in March which I am very excited about.
Les Misérables Concert
It was announced that Les Misérables was holding a special concert featuring the incredible Alfie Boe, Michael Ball and Matt Lucas. We were lucky enough to get tickets for the very last performance in November! Getting these tickets was so stressful, at one point my mother was number 26,000 in line. I really didn’t think we’d be able to get the final performance tickets but we did and I am beyond excited! November can’t come soon enough!
Jaz and I celebrated Valentine’s Day for the first time in the 7 years we’ve been together. We’ve never been a fan of the holiday but then we saw all the good deals restaurants were doing and we both enjoy presents so thought why not? We celebrated it at the weekend and went out for a meal at Frankie and Benny’s and then went bowling. I hadn’t been bowling since I was in secondary school so I had no idea what I was doing. It was really fun though and I won a light up tortoise balloon in the arcades after.
My Sister’s Birthday
Despite the fact she looks about 13 my sister turned 20! I can’t believe she’s no longer a teenager but still has the attitude of one haha. It was a really relaxed, fun day. She opened her presents in the morning and we all went out for cocktails later that night to celebrate.
I can’t believe I get to say this…I’m going back to Disneyland this year! Jaz had been planning this trip for a few weeks without my knowledge and on the day I published my Disneyland Paris Top Tips blog he told me and booked the trip. I am beyond excited! We’ll be flying out on the 11th of November so we’ll be there for my birthday on the 12th and come back on the 14th. It’s going to be amazing and Jaz is looking forward to going without the pressure of proposing this time haha.
I got Fired
After having the life sucked out of me for months I finally got fired! I felt like a massive weight had been lifted from me. The company I worked for was a mess. We were very heavily micro-managed, were told that we weren’t allowed to speak to each other during working hours, the atmosphere was awful and the director made it abundantly clear he didn’t like me….as in he outright told me he didn’t like my personality. He didn’t like that I wasn’t loud, outgoing and extroverted and told me I needed to change that if I wanted a career there.
I could go on for hours about all the things that were wrong with not only the company but the man that ran it too. But, in the end, when I was away from my desk on my lunch break, he went through my Mac and found a message I’d sent to a co-worker calling him an asshole. I was fired on the spot as soon as I got back. At the end of the day though if he wasn’t such as asshole I wouldn’t have called him one. I left the office feeling free and happy and celebrated with a drink from Caffe Nero.
I don’t know why I hadn’t already left that job. In hindsight, I wish I had, but when you work in such a draining place you get stuck. I’d leave late and have no motivation to look for another job during the week. Then at the weekends, I was too exhausted, busy blogging and Monday would roll around again way too quickly. It’s just an endless cycle of misery and demotivation.
Really I should thank him for firing me. I’ve had the time to put so much more effort into my blog and social media. I’ve also recently started a new job, still in digital marketing, that’s much more chilled and doesn’t have a really high staff turnover which is great. Since my harsh firing, this company have now lost another 4 people, making it 8 in total since January. People are realising what a toxic environment this company was and I’m so happy they’re moving on to bigger and better things. Karma is a bitch.
For such a short month so much happened. For me February 2019 started miserably, stuck in a job I absolutely hated and ended with a new job and a trip to Disneyland on the way! I really enjoy writing these posts as you realise just how much can change in a month.
