How my blog began
My blog started about a year after I’d graduated from university. I was in a job that I hated and that wasn’t using my degree at all and I wanted some kind of outlet, a way to connect with other people who had the same interests as me. After posting mediocre content for a couple of months, not really knowing what I was doing or where I was trying to go with this blog, and having a lot of big changes and things going on in my personal life I gave up. Giving up was a massive mistake!
6 months later I came back more determined, settled and committed to my blog. I started putting in so much more effort and really began to enjoy it. I connected with more people, got organised, spent more time coming up with ideas and set a schedule and it was the best decision I’ve made in a long time. Blogging is now a huge part of my life and I can’t imagine not doing it. Like many other bloggers I hope to one day be able to make a career out of it.
Advice for new bloggers
Don’t be afraid to use social media – When I first started I didn’t want to post anything about my blog on any of my social medias because I was afraid of what people might think. This was stupid. Since promoting my blog and really utilising social media I’ve met so many lovely people and my views and subscribers shot up! In my experience the blogging community is so helpful and supportive and you can make some really good friends from it.
Celebrate every achievement – It’s very easy to get disheartened and to give up when things aren’t going as you imagined. When bigger bloggers all around you are getting paid sponsorship’s, thousands of subscribers, hundreds of likes etc it can get you down and make you wonder what you’re doing wrong. Stop that. Everyone has to start somewhere and everyone has been where you are now. You reached 5, 10, 20, 100+ followers? Go you! Someone liked your post? Yay! Someone commented on your post? That’s exciting! You beat your record of most views in one day? Give yourself a pat on the back! Blogging is hard work and those little achievements make it all worth it, so celebrate them and feel proud of yourself!
