It’s been almost 2 weeks since my boyfriend proposed and I still can’t get over the fact that we’re engaged! I have been waiting for this moment for so long and it was perfect, it was something right out of a fairytale and since then our wedding is all I can think about!
Jaz and I have been together for 7 years this year. We are total opposites, we argue and bicker all the time, have very little common interests but somehow it works. Not to sound cheesy here but he’s my best friend, we laugh and joke around, are constantly teasing each other, support each other no matter how irrational or crazy our personal goals seem, always have each other’s backs, can spend hours talking and gossiping and I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.
How he proposed?
For as long as I can remember my dream proposal has always been in Disneyland, in front of the castle during the fireworks and that’s exactly what Jaz did. We were sat on the ground amongst hundreds of people, Disney Illuminations began and it was amazing, I was taking pictures and filming practically the entire thing. When the Beauty and the Beast song came on I noticed he was fidgeting quite a bit next to me, so I put the camera down and he then nudged me with his elbow and I refused to look at him because I knew then what was coming and was holding back the tears. Jaz then pulled out a box and said “you know you’ve always wanted me to ask you to marry me at Disneyland? Well, will you?” Honestly I couldn’t speak at that moment because I was crying too much and my hesitation freaked him out a bit but obviously, I said yes! He then put the beautiful ring on my finger and we finished watching the show. It was perfect.
If you skip to 20:27 in my Disney video you’ll see the Disney Illumination show and that I stop filming when the beauty and beast song comes on, in the next clip I am officially engaged and bawling my damn eyes out!
My mother works in an Independent Jewellers and a few years ago I spotted this ring and completely fell in love with it. Every time I went in I would try it on and send pictures of it to Jaz as a not so subtle hint and he would usually send back the eye roll emoji haha.
About a year ago I noticed the ring was no longer in the window and panicked thinking someone had bought it and it was gone forever! My mother reassured me no one had and showed it to me in the safe, saying they just wanted to display some other rings for a while, this of course was a lie, someone had bought it. Jaz had put down a deposit and was working to pay off the rest. Just a few months ago my mum informed me that they had sent the ring back to the manufacturer as it wasn’t selling so it was no longer in the shop, (again another lie, she’s so sneaky!) obviously the truth was Jaz had picked it up.
I can’t stop looking at the ring, it’s so beautiful! The main diamond in the middle is half a carat with smaller diamonds surrounding it and in the band which is platinum, it’s a Round Brilliant shape and style, VS1 clarity grade which is extremely good and the colour grade is G which means it’s near colourless and an excellent diamond. In other words, the boy did very well! It’s such a mesmerising ring, especially in the sun or the right light when it really sparkles and I’m so happy I get to wear this for the rest of my life.
We’ve started making a few plans. The first things I did was buy wedding magazines, create a Pinterest board and download an app called BrideBook which looks really good and has been very helpful so far. We’ve decided to get married in October 2020 and are strongly considering the 31st as our official date, which thrills me as Halloween is one of my favourite holidays!
Lots of people are telling us that 2020 is too far away and we should look to get married next year instead, but Jaz and I have always wanted a long engagement to give us time to save, take our time planning and just enjoy being engaged. We are both only 25 years old, in October 2020 Jaz will just be 28 and I’ll be 27 which we feel is a good age to get married by. I’m enjoying that fact that we have 2 and a half years and am having fun just browsing dresses and venues to get an idea of what we like. I wasn’t one of those girls who always thought about my wedding and planned the entire thing before getting the ring. So we feel it’s best to take it a bit slower to learn what we are doing and ensure we get exactly what we want.
I’ve saved a few dresses on my phone that all look incredible and can’t wait to try some on! I want to lose quite a bit of weight first before I start trying dresses on though, as I know I won’t be comfortable with things like my arms showing or my stomach podge. So I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me to feel less self-conscious about these things!
We’ve also been looking at some gorgeous venues! Both in the Somerset and Essex area, at the moment there are 2 top contenders which we need to visit. We’re hoping to book the venue in December!
It’s all very exciting and we’re both just in a happy little engagement bubble!
