May Bank Holiday Weekend | 2019
Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! If you live in the UK I hope you all enjoyed the recent May bank holiday weekend. My weekend was pretty eventful as I spent it with Jaz in London/Essex. So for today’s post, I thought I’d share with you what we did.
On Friday night I got the 7:30pm train from Somerset to London and arrived in Waterloo around 10pm. It was the 1 year anniversary of our engagement so Jaz and I wanted to do something to celebrate. We had a table booked at Miller and Carter but due to some train delays, we couldn’t make it. As we made our way over to where Jaz was parked in Stratford we saw that TGI Friday’s was still open so we managed to get a table there instead.
The food and cocktails were both really good. I ordered a porn star martini which, for some reason, came with a shot of prosecco. I also ordered cheesy garlic bread (can’t go wrong there) and chicken strips coated in sesame seeds and bbq sauce.
On Saturday we headed over to Southbank for about 11am as we had booked tickets to go on the London eye! I think I was around 7/8 years old the last time I went on the London Eye and so was Jaz. We were both pretty excited and thankfully the queue was moving pretty quickly despite the length. As expected the views were amazing! It was a really sunny day so we could see for miles. It was strange to look at the city from a different perspective but also so fascinating.
After the London Eye, we walked around for a bit and came across the Sherlock Holmes pub which we decided to try for lunch. The food was incredible, especially the spiced halloumi. Unfortunately, though the service really let the place down. The wait time to just order was ridiculously long, to the point where we started discussing where else we could go. It also took ages for the food to come out and the waitresses were quite cold. We witnessed them both having arguments with each other as well as customers and it was all pretty unprofessional.
After lunch, we browsed some of the shops but at this point, the heat was really starting to get to me. I’d also made the decision to wear heels so my feet were pretty numb. We decided to call it day in London and got the train back to Essex where we spent a couple of hours watching a movie with Jaz’s dad and brother, before getting ready to go to Jaz’s local pub with his friends and their partners for the evening.
Sunday morning I awoke with a hangover. In all honesty, I can’t tell you how much I’d had to drink the night before but it did mean I wasn’t my usual, awkward self with his friends which was great haha. I got ready at a very leisurely pace and we headed out to visit Jaz’s mum and to give her a birthday present before driving over to Lakeside to see The Secret Life of Pets 2. The movie was just what we needed. Cute, funny and light-hearted. After the movie, we wandered around a few shops and then it was time for me to get the train back home to Somerset. Sunday was a very chilled out day which was a nice change of pace compared to the day before.
Bank holiday Monday was also a pretty relaxed day where me, my mum and my sister all went to see Aladdin which was amazing and I highly recommend it.
