Month in Pictures: March 2020

March 28, 2020
Blog post

Well…what a month March 2020 has been! From days out and exciting things coming up to being in a nationwide lockdown. When I look at what I was doing at the beginning of the month compared to the end it feels like a lifetime has passed. March 2020 has been a month of anxiety, uncertainty and worry but there have been a few highlights which I want to show in today’s post.

I took a little break from blogging this week. With everything going on in the world I didn’t feel like posting. To me, it felt a little odd to post things like makeup reviews, hauls and tutorials. Honestly, I’ve barely done my makeup since working from home anyway and with this lockdown in place, I don’t want to buy unnecessary things. It just feels wrong somehow. It’s a very weird time for the world.

After speaking to a few people, I’ve decided to carry on blogging. Just because to seem people reading a blog post and even writing a blog post can be a good way to escape. Spending my weekend’s blogging is just a natural, normal thing for me so I want to try and stick to that routine as much as possible if that makes sense. Let me know in the comments what type of posts you’d like to see.

Nintendo Switch + Switch Lite

Right at the beginning of the month, Jaz bought a Nintendo Switch. It was something he’d been thinking about for a while and with Animal Crossings New Horizons coming out later in the month I was all for it too. I think it’s probably one of the best purchases we’ve made. We’ve been playing it so much!

After a few weeks though I wanted to get a Switch of my own. So the day before the country went into lockdown I grabbed a Switch Lite and I’m so glad I did. Switch Lites are slighter smaller and more portable than the original Switch, it’s more of a handheld version. It’s been great to just pick up and play Animal Crossings, plus there’s now no need for Jaz and I to clash when we want to play haha.

Cedar Falls Spa Day

Earlier this month I posted ‘Spending the Day at Cedar Falls Spa‘ and it was honestly one of the best days this month. It was my first ever spa day and I’d love to go back. As soon as the world has gone back to normal I think we all deserve a spa day! It was so relaxing and chilled and the treatment I had was amazing.

Wedding Food Tasting

One thing we were all very excited about was our wedding food tasting! Along with me and Jaz, my mum and sister plus Jaz’s dad, aunt and brother all went along for an afternoon of eating. As we’re having a mix of both Indian and English food the tasting mainly consisted of the Indian side of things as it was all new dishes that our caterer was testing out.

There were a couple of dishes that were a miss but overall the food was amazing. Honestly, I can’t wait to eat it all again on the day haha. Of course, my favourite part was the dessert. We had a Malteser cheesecake which was so creamy and delicious and a chocolate brownie that was to die for. I actually ate the entire brownie myself haha.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

On March 20th the brand new Animal Crossing game was released. I had pre-ordered it of course so got it that same day and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. I think I’ve owned every Animal Crossing game, it definitely a favourite of mine! This one is very different from the other ones but it’s so much fun. It’s also absolutely adorable. I’ve been having a great time designing my own clothes, taking cute pictures and collecting fossils, fish and bugs. Honestly, whether you’re a fan of the old games or new to the whole franchise I’d definitely recommend it. There’s nothing not to like about the game. Even Jaz has got himself addicted to it!

UK Lockdown

Working from Home

I know I said I was only going to talk about the highlights of this month but the UK lockdown is such a major thing that I can’t not talk about it. On the 13th it was announced at my workplace that we’d be working from home for the foreseeable future. Having only been at the company for two weeks I was a little worried about it. The first week was fine, fun even. I enjoyed just spending the day in loungewear and very little makeup, getting up later and not having to get the train. I’ve just completed the second week and now I’m getting a little bored. I do miss going into the office and seeing my co-workers face to face. But, this could be our reality for 12+ weeks so it’s something I have to get used to.

UK Lockdown

On the 23rd of March 2020, Boris Johnson announced the lockdown. We all knew it was coming, but actually hearing it was horrible. From the 24th nobody could leave their house except to buy food, have an hour of outdoor exercise like a walk or a run, or to go to medical appointments. All unnecessary businesses are closed and we can’t socialise with friends or family outside of our household.

While I definitely agree this was needed to slow the spread of the virus it was still really upsetting news. I had spent the weekend before in Somerset for my mum’s birthday and Mother’s Day and was strongly considering heading back on Monday night to spend the lockdown there. It was a really tough choice. Do I spend the 3-week (potentially longer) lockdown with my mum, sister and cat or spend it with my fiance. In the end, a coin flip decided that I was staying in Essex. It’s definitely been tough. Knowing that I won’t get to spend Easter with my family or see my friends has really impacted me and I’ve been feeling very down about it all. It’s such a shit situation for everyone and we can only hope that we come out of it soon.

To everyone who is also experiencing a lockdown how are you coping? What are you doing to get through it? Are you planning anything fun to do once this all clears up?

How are you liking animal crossing for the Nintendo Switch/Lite? I didn’t buy the game yet because I feel bad abandoning the one I had for the 3DS. (I can’t read the whole article here so I am basing my comment off of your featured photo)

Oh it’s amazing! I’m so obsessed with it haha. I know what you mean though, I feel bad abandoning my DS one too. I keep thinking I’ll go back to it and play both but I just don’t ??‍♀️ There should be a link at the end of the excerpt you can click to take you to the full post. ?

Yes, there’s a link for the full post. I’m on my phone and my phone doesn’t load links for some reason. It’s been doing this for a while and it only seems to be on WP. It works on the laptop no problem? My animal crossing game is hacked so I had unlimited fruit. If I were to get a new game, I would have to start over from scratch…

Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling a little anxious and uncertain, sounds like Animal Crossing is proving to be a good distraction though! I’m quite a homebody so don’t often leave home and go out anyway so I think I will be ok with the staying at home side of things. I guess the most unsettling part is how long the isolation and lockdown periods could go on for x

Oh yeah it’s definitely a good distraction, nothing bad can happen there ? Yeah I didn’t realise how much I went out until I couldn’t, I travel a lot between London and where my family live in Somerset so not being able to now is really hard.

That’s exactly it, not knowing how long it could go on for is really unsettling and having to make backup plans for my wedding and having our house move delayed yet again just doesn’t help. I’m ready for 2020 to be over now haha.

That must be hard not being able to see your family ?
The lockdown periods will also depend on how well people co-operate with the rules, it’s upsetting to hear stories of people not obeying the rules and thinking they can still do whatever they like x
