My London Bucket List

Blog post

In just a few short months I will be moving from Somerset to London and I am so excited! My fiance currently lives there and we have finally bought our first home together which should, fingers crossed, be ready to move into by the end of September. I’ve visited London quite a lot in my lifetime and I never tire of it. There’s always so much to do and see and experience. So, I have compiled a London bucket list of everything I want to do when I’m living there.

Peggy Porschen Cakes

Peggy Porschen Cakes is a bakery in Belgravia that creates cute little cupcakes and creative party cakes. This place is always plastered all over Instagram for its pretty pink exterior. I’d love to visit it one day and see it in all its glory.

The Cauldron

The Cauldron is a Harry Potter themed bar and it looks so much fun! As you enter you are given a robe to wear and a wand and brew two potions to create a ‘drinkable elixir’. It seems like an amazing experience and definitely something I’d like to cross off this London bucket list soon!

See More Shows

As a huge musical theatre fan and a drama uni graduate, it’s safe to say I’ve seen a lot of shows. However, there are still so many I want to see, from the big musicals to the lesser known plays. As I’ll be living much closer to the West End than I am now I’m hoping there’ll be a lot more shows in the future.

London Dungeons

I love anything spooky and creepy and the London Dungeons have been on my bucket list for a while now. This experience takes you through the horrors of London history and includes Jack the Ripper, Guy Fawkes, Sweeny Todd, The Plague Doctor, The Great Fire of London and so much more. They also hold a screamfest on Halloween which sounds super scary.

Go on the London Eye

I have already done this but I was around 8-10 years old and terrified so I’d like to experience the London Eye again as a big, brave adult and preferably with a glass of champagne in hand haha.

Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens is the world leading botanic gardens and it looks incredible, especially around Christmas. There always seems to be a lot going on here including tours and a few courses such as designing your own garden and an autumn photography masterclass which look really interesting. Kew Gardens seems like it’d be a really nice day out and definitely a place I’d like to visit in December.

Dinner in The Shard

I’ve walked past The Shard many times but have never actually been inside. It is a 95 storey skyscraper with amazing views from the top and lots of luxurious bars and restaurants. I think it’d be amazing to have dinner here, drink a few cocktails and look at the beautiful London views.

Visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

I think it’d be amazing to visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, take a tour, learn about the history and of course watch a performance!

Visit Platform 9 and 3/4

I am very surprised I haven’t already done this but I’d really like to visit Platform 9 and 3/4 at Kings Cross Station. On the platform, they have a trolley photo opportunity plus a Harry Potter shop which is styled to look like Ollivander’s Wand shop.

Ball Pit Bar – Ballie Ballerson

I used to love ball pits as a child and didn’t think there’d really be a place where I could experience them as an adult too! Ballie Ballerson (yes, that’s really what it’s called) is a bar in Shoreditch which has unique cocktails, food and massive ball pit featuring 1 million balls! This place looks like a lot of fun and I imagine it’d be a really great night out.

Have a picnic in Hyde Park

This is another thing I’ve already done but would like to do again. Hyde Park is such a pretty place and I remember once Jaz and I had lunch overlooking the Serpentine which was really peaceful. I think it’d be really relaxing and fun to have another picnic here in the middle of summer.

Master the Tube

I’m not going to lie the tube scares me. As Jaz is a Londoner I always just follow his lead around the stations whenever I go up to visit. But I would like to one day master the tube and not have to ask for help or stare at a map in total confusion.

Visit Notting Hill and Portobello Road

These are both such iconic places in London to visit and I’ve never been! I’d love to go around Notting Hill and see the typical, movie tourist sports and experience the street market in Portobello Road.

Sky Garden

Jaz went to the Sky Garden once with his co-workers and said that I would love it and we’d have to go one day. This was a few years ago now and we still haven’t got around to going but obviously, it is on my bucket list for when I move up there and is something we will definitely do! It looks like such an amazing place with fantastic views of the city.

Explore and Discover more

When I visited London back in January Jaz and I wandered around Chelsea and came across this small Italian resturant which was incredible. The cosy atmosphere, the delicious food, the beautiful location and the friendly staff all made for an unforgettable evening. This is what I’m most excited about. Just wandering around, exploring the city and finding some real hidden gems.

While I am very nervous about the move from the middle of nowhere Somerset to the busy capital, I am also very excited. I can’t wait to experience so much more of London. While living in the country is peaceful and picturesque it can also be extremely dull. Especially living in a place with one decent bar, one nightclub which is just a hub for new 18-year-olds, no interesting events, no iconic places and one country park which is pretty but boring after you’ve been around it hundreds of times.

Don’t get me wrong, I will definitely miss Somerset and the town I’ve lived in for the last 26 years, but I am also itching to live somewhere more fun and lively.

If you live in or near London what other activities or events would you suggest? I’d love to know!

I hope you all enjoyed my London bucket list! If you did don’t forget to subscribe to my blog. You can also follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest too. Thanks for reading!

Hey girl, I just found your blog and I love it!

I’ve started to visit London quite regularly as my brother now lives there and I only live about an hour away, this is such a great list and definitely now on my bucket list… especially west end shows as I’ve never had the chance to see one yet even though I’ve grown up as a musical theatre geek!!

    Thank you for sharing! xx
