Netflix is one of the greatest joy’s in my life and I’m not ashamed to admit that. My favourite time of day is when I finally get to jump into bed with my iPad and settle down with a new, addicting series. There’s quite a few that I’ve been loving recently that have filled the Love Island shaped hole in my life. So if you’re looking for something new to watch then keep on reading!
Orange Is the New Black
Season six has arrived and it’s just as addicting as the others! The drama is higher than ever, it’s a dangerous place, and some of our favourite inmates are facing either an extra 10 years added to their sentence or life.
This season is very different from the others. Unfortunately, many of the previous cast members haven’t returned, but there are a bunch of new semi-lovable characters! We slowly get to see the backstories of these new characters and are reminded that they are in maximum security for a reason, their backstories are pretty shocking!
It’s not as funny as previous seasons, which makes sense as the show is heading in a darker direction, but there were a couple of ‘laugh out loud’ moments. Overall I’ve really enjoyed this season. It definitely kept me gripped and as always I’m mad at myself for finishing it so quickly because now I have to wait another year!
This is such a tense show and always has me on the edge of my seat! Homeland focuses on a bipolar CIA agent, Carrie Mathison, who’s convinced that a former American prisoner of war has been turned and is planning a terrorist attack on American soil.
It’s a real thought-provoking series that makes you look at each side of terrorism. The Muslims believe Americans are monsters for bombing them, often resulting in innocent fatalities which we’re shown the aftermath of, and the Americans believe that Muslims are monsters for bombing them and more innocent people and so the destructive cycle continues. Not only do we see the intensity of the CIA agents trying to prevent attacks but we also see their personal struggles, Carrie’s Bipolar condition, which no one in the CIA can know about, and Saul’s rocky marriage.
If you want something totally gripping that you won’t be able to switch off then Homeland is the one for you!
If you haven’t heard of, or watched, Safe yet then what are you doing with your life?! A couple of months ago this was all anyone was talking about so I decided to give it a go and was instantly hooked. There is only one season, and I think that’s all there is going to be, with 8 episodes which I finished over a weekend. It’s a brilliant murder mystery story that kept me guessing the whole time, I did not predict who it was at all.
I didn’t trust anyone. Even the characters I liked I tried not to get too attached to in case they were the murderer. Safe is full of twists and turns and has so many intricate storylines that just weave into each other seamlessly. I thought the murder reveal was excellent and I was so upset when it was over knowing there won’t be another season!
Jane the Virgin
Want to binge on something fun and lighthearted with an extremely talented cast? Jane the Virgin is your answer! Jane was accidentally artificially inseminated, resulting in an unexpected pregnancy by a man she’d only met once before. Her life is turned completely upside down as she prepares to become a mother to a child that doesn’t belong to her long-term boyfriend. It all sounds rather dramatic but this is such a hilarious show!
It’s a very refreshing show that isn’t meant to be taken seriously. It combines several cultures together and represents the drama-filled telenovelas. All of the characters have so much chemistry together and there’s not one character I dislike. My favourite characters though are Jane, Xo, Rogelio, Michael (TEAM MICHAEL) and Petra.
Jane the Virgin has become my new favourite show and I’m trying so hard to convince my fiance to watch it with me! I highly recommend it those looking for a laugh.
