The Best Parts of Starting the Wedding Planning Journey
I’ve been engaged for just over a year now, which sounds like a really long time but honestly, I still can’t quite believe it. We will be getting married next October so we’ve still got quite a while and a lot to do! Wedding planning can definitely be stressful, I’ve already cried more times than I can count and we’ve barely started haha. But it’s also so much fun! Here are some of the best parts of starting the wedding planning journey.
As soon as I was back in the UK after we got engaged I went straight to our local supermarket and picked up a bunch of wedding magazines. With the ring officially on my finger, I no longer had to just surreptitiously glance at the wedding magazines. I could actually pick up an armful and take them all to the checkouts! They’re really fun to flick through and get some good ideas and inspiration.
Before I was engaged I would spend hours browsing Pinterest for makeup and nail ideas. Now it’s just full of wedding planning tips, dresses, colour schemes and autumn themes! I love adding things to my wedding board and it was actually very useful when it came to booking our wedding photographer discovering what style of photography I like.
Etsy is absolutely amazing for getting wedding bits and I am constantly browsing it. I got my Save the Date cards and bridesmaids cards from Etsy and I was so happy with them and the service. Not only are you supporting small businesses on Etsy but you’re also getting something totally unique for your wedding which makes it all the more special.
Choosing the Date
In the next few days after Jaz proposed all we could talk about was the date of our wedding. It was a lot harder than we thought it would be. Out of all the 365 days of the year which one could be the perfect day for our wedding? We were both glued to the calendars on our phones, throwing out random dates at each other. We knew we wanted an autumn wedding and when we saw Halloween fell on a Saturday in 2020 that was it!
Your wedding venue is probably one of the most important factors and browsing/viewing them was so much fun. Seeing these beautiful places in person really makes the whole thing seem real. We only viewed two venues as I completely fell in love with the first one we saw. Browsing, choosing, viewing and booking your venue is honestly such a magical experience!
Looking at wedding dresses
While I am absolutely dreading actually trying on wedding dresses I still love looking at them. Admiring pretty dresses in windows, scrolling through pages on Instagram and Pinterest and binge-watching Say Yes to the Dress, are now some of my favourite pastimes.
Buying a Wedding Planner
Before getting engaged I would go into any stationery shop and stare longingly at the beautiful wedding planners. A couple of times I almost bought one, just to be prepared. Instead, for Christmas, my aunt and uncle bought me a pretty, pale blue planner with a little notebook to go with it. I’ve been using this wedding planner as more of a scrapbook to look back on in years to come. Adding in notes, dates, pictures, our Save the Dates and other bits to remember the whole process by!
Checking out Honeymoon destinations
The fact that we don’t have our flowers, cake or music sorted yet isn’t stopping us from constantly looking at 5-star resorts and dreaming of a two-week honeymoon to a fabulous, tropical paradise. I think after all the wedding planning stress a relaxing beach/island holiday is well deserved!
Cleaning the Ring
Okay, this one doesn’t sound very exciting but I really enjoy cleaning my engagement ring every now and then. It’s one of those things you don’t even realise is getting dull until you clean it and it sparkles like it’s brand new again! All you need to do is take an old toothbrush, dip it in some water with a bit of washing up liquid in and gently scrub it. Make sure you scrub every part thoroughly, then gently rinse it off and admire your blindingly beautiful ring!
